Shikara Movie Reviews by Top Critics
Times of India
To sum it up, Vindhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘Shikara’ will cater to the cinematic sensibilities of a certain section of the audience. As a love story, it works at some level, but in the bigger picture, this old-school romance doesn’t really grip you and keep you engaged for too long.Visit site for full review.
Shiv and Shanti hark back to a time when Hindi movie lovers had the power to make you smile: they take their time to reach optimum intimacy, and you get a tad impatient, but the pay-off is worth it – this is a couple who’ve lived together for a lifetime, digging into their reserves of resilience, and we can see and feel that strong connection. It shows us how present-day Bollywood has forgotten how to do romances.Visit site for full review.
The history lesson is ultimately weak, but the romance is always strong. Admirably shot by Rangarajan Ramabran and tightly edited by Chopra, Shikara resists the seduction of a grand-sweep narrative for an intimately observed story of a tragedy that is leavened by love. Chopra’s first film in five years is his most restrained yet. The unwavering tenderness between Shiv and Sadia results in some lovely moments, and the easy chemistry between the actors lends credibility and heft to the relationship. Aadil Khan, the stronger performer, is especially wonderful at conveying Shiv’s plight and his struggle to keep his bearings.Visit site for full review.
