The film’s soundtrack is rich in melody that adds value to the storytelling. The short runtime is another plus with an intriguing first-half, but a predictable second-half.

‘Love Aaj Kal’ sets off to celebrate complex characters and dysfunctional relationships, with the universal emotion of love at its core. It creates some emotional moments along the way but doesn’t quite leave you spellbound.

On the whole, LOVE AAJ KAL 2 is strictly for the youth and romantic at heart. At the box office, it will start on a positive note on the account of its novel cast and the festive (Valentine’s Day) period. The business will be decent across urban multiplexes while business at single screens may remain average.

The fault is not in the stars but the director himself. To see that Sara and even Kartik, who hasn’t really cemented his foot as an actor but clearly wants to, have surrendered themselves to Imtiaz Ali, and then ended up with a poorly written script, limited characterization and sub-par direction is heartbreaking.

If you walked into Love Aaj Kal as an Imtiaz Ali fan, despite the debacle that Jab Harry Met Sejal was, you will walk out broken, even more disappointed. And perhaps with the realization that Imtiaz, the man with the untamable hair and the insatiable appetite for delving deep into the human psyche, has ebbed.

Love Aaj Kal is an audacious, if flawed, ode to love as a quest for happiness and self-realization that often triggers conflicting emotions and unsettling impulses but never fails to enrich the soul. There is a touch of old-world magic to the film although the emphasis is squarely on a modern couple learning from a pair from a generation ago how to heal themselves. If you get it, you’ll absolutely love Love Aaj Kal. If you don’t, it might all feel like a meandering mess.

All said and done, Love Aaj Kal is yet another wild ride taken by Imtiaz Ali in the quest to give a new meaning to the old love. Watch it along with your broken heart. Songs in an Imtiaz Ali film serves more than just melodious track with a soothing voice. To avoid the all-dialogue scenario, he gets his lines moulded into songs to continue the conversation

Imtiaz Ali, who redefined love with films like Socha Na Tha, Jab We Met, Rockstar, Tamasha in the past, barely makes you root for the lead pair’s romance in Kartik Aaryan-Sara Ali Khan’s Love Aaj Kal. After two successive disappointing fares in the form of Jab Harry Met Sejal and his latest outing, all one feels like telling the filmmaker is, ‘Aana toh poori tarah aana, ya toh aana hi mat.’

Imtiaz Ali is a creature of habit. He doesn’t seek change, there’s no comfort in it. Denial excites him as does escape. His characters are love fools bidding time questioning the very mush they believe in or running away to far-flung places in pursuit of answers they knew all along.

The entire premise of the new Love Aaj Kal relies on a woman’s reluctance to juggle career and romance. Short of Sara banging bangles against the wall and screaming nahiiiiiLove Aaj Kal serves every possible hysterical reaction to drive this point.

A poorly conceived reboot that’s overlong, overdramatic and overdone, Love Aaj Kal simply cannot differentiate between pyaar and parody.
